Large China Pedant in Opaline Glass and Brass by Bent Karlby for Lyfa, Denmark 1960s
- Description
-
The Large China Pendant was designed by Bent Karlby for Lyfa in Denmark during the 1960s. It consists of an opaline glass shade and a brass top, constructed for ceiling suspension. The fixture provides downward and ambient illumination through the glass surface. The pendant was part of a series of functional lighting designs produced by Lyfa during this period, intended for both residential and commercial interiors. Its construction allows for even light diffusion while concealing the bulb. Bent Karlby was a Danish designer active in the mid-20th century, known for his contributions to lighting design and his collaboration with major Danish manufacturers. His work combined clear geometric forms with practical lighting needs. Lyfa, based in Copenhagen, was a key producer of lighting in Denmark from the early 20th century through the 1970s, focusing on electric lighting solutions. The China Pendant remains a documented example of Danish industrial design from the postwar period.
Condition: Overall this pendant shows age related user marks visible to the brass ceiling plate and brass details, which gives a beautiful patina to the piece.
