Giancarlo Piretti Plona Chair, Anonima Castelli, Italy, 1969

$1,060
Description

Born in Bologna, Piretti (b.1940) studied at the city’s Istituto Statale d’Arte before joining manufacturer Anonima Castelli as a designer. His work married a space age sensibility with robust functionality, and many of his seating designs can be folded, stacked or adjusted to the user’s weight.

The Plona is one of his best known designs. Its scooped square seat and folding aluminium frame exemplify Piretti’s ability to find comfort for the sitter without compromising on industrial character.

In good condition, with some light tarnishing to the chrome. Pair available, priced individually. One chair has more significant wear and a tear repaired on the back. Both have recently had their leather conditioned.

Béton Brut presents rare, design-led furniture from Europe and Japan. The collection, drawn from over a century of design, coheres around functional art & sculptural forms. Béton Brut comes from the concrete finish used in modernist architecture. It is rational yet organic, just like the collection.
