Reupholstered Pair of Lounge Chairs by Hartmut Lohmeyer for Wilkhahn, Germany, 1950s

$11,950
Description

This pair of Lounge Chairs, Model “400,” was designed by Hartmut Lohmeyer for Wilkhahn in the 1950s. Both chairs are made of teak with a newly woven cane backrest and an upholstered seating cushion, redone in a fabric by Gancedo, Spain.

The frame features precise joinery, and the seat design provides comfortable support. The cane backrest allows ventilation and flexibility. These chairs reflect Wilkhahn’s focus on quality craftsmanship and durable materials during the postwar period of furniture production in Germany.

Hartmut Lohmeyer was a German architect and designer active in the mid-20th century. He collaborated with Wilkhahn from the early 1950s, developing furniture that combined architectural structure with efficient production methods. Wilkhahn, founded in 1907 near Hanover, became known for modern furniture based on technical innovation and ergonomic principles. The company worked with leading German designers to advance industrial furniture production while maintaining high standards of material use and construction.
