What would an armchair look like if it were turned inside out, like a sweater? Designer Faye Toogood answers with a groundbreaking collection for Meritalia® called Crease. It includes an armchair and a sofa (two seater and three seater). Irony and sophistication unfold through prominent stitching and almost two–dimensional shapes throughout the soft wool upholstery. All three are the result of almost archetypal, classic models, as if the "reverse" side of the lining concealed every peculiarity. But what truly distinguishes them – and makes Toogood's signature evident – is the very importance of the upholstery, which serves as a starting point, even before the structure itself. All the components of Crease are made by hands that seem to have folded the paper to cover the "structure." It is the "fold" lines, intentionally imperfect, that create soft, playful, and sculptural forms. Completing the collection, following these soft, generous lines, the Crease coffee table is made by cutting and folding a metal sheet like a sheet of paper. This "metal origami," with its rounded, folded legs, has a playful look, a shiny finish and an almost zoomorphic shape. Craftsmanship plays a key role in this project – as always happens at Meritalia®: once again, the radical brand par excellence leverages expert and forward–thinking people to explore new frontiers of design with spontaneous and, above all, refined elegance.Crease Toogood's first collaboration with Meritalia. A collection of seating and tables inspired by two–dimensional nets, flat–pack and the act of folding paper. Crease turns upholstery upside down.

Meritalia®
Since 1987, Meritalia® denies symmetry and seeks unique shapes and volumes in its products. The company is based on an Italian manufacturing tradition that combines high-quality materials with continuous research and innovation. This approach is perfectly represented by the works of Gaetano Pesce, who also designed the radical, imperfect collection "par excellence": Edizioni del Pesce. Moreover, designers who have collaborated with Meritalia® also include Mario Bellini, Carlo Contin, Giulio Iacchetti, and, more recently, the disruptive Misha Kahn. The result is a unique and radical collection that invites people to explore their creativity and shape their living space.
