Afra & Tobia Scarpa Soriana Chairs Cassina, Italy, 1970s
- Description
-
Winner of the Compasso d’Oro award in 1970, the Soriana led Italian couple Afra and Tobia Scarpa to instant success. Together in 1968 they designed a pair of cloud-like chairs for low-slung lounging. An original concept, the fully stuffed seats maintain their structure in a wrap-around metal belt. It then shot to collectability this decade after appearing in the beautiful homes of American interior designers Kelly Wearstler and Nate Berkus.
These lounge chairs are upholstered in the original off-black corduroy fabric, with some signs of wear and use to the fabric. The metal is in good vintage condition, with only slight age wear and patina.

Béton Brut
Béton Brut presents rare, design-led furniture from Europe and Japan. The collection, drawn from over a century of design, coheres around functional art & sculptural forms. Béton Brut comes from the concrete finish used in modernist architecture. It is rational yet organic, just like the collection.
