Claudio Salocchi Elisse Dining Table Sormani, Italy, 1964

$5,605
Description

Italian architect and designer Claudio Salocchi (1934–2012) studied architecture at the influential Milan Politecnico University before embarking on a design career that lasted some fifty years. He established a reputation for deep research into furniture layouts, yielding innovative compositions without compromise on function. His prescient Metrosistema design, a customisable system of multifunctional cabinets designed primarily for kitchens, was awarded the Compasso d’Oro in 1979.

This futuristic 1960s design by Salocchi features a taut steel wire suspended in a tinted acrylic cylinder. The circular base in brushed aluminium is mirrored by a lacquered black tabletop, which is punctuated by a central detail in the same metal.

In fair vintage condition, with some light scratching and marks to the top. Small aluminium circle top middle replaced.

Béton Brut presents rare, design-led furniture from Europe and Japan. The collection, drawn from over a century of design, coheres around functional art & sculptural forms. Béton Brut comes from the concrete finish used in modernist architecture. It is rational yet organic, just like the collection.
