AFS Side table 001 Low & Tall Archive for Space, Stoke-on-Trent, 2020

$2,645
Description

Side Table 001 is a made to order design by Archive for Space, a multidisciplinary design practice founded in London in 2019. Side Table 001 was designed to celebrate raw steel through exploring the material’s cyclical nature. Made from standard tube sizes and gauges, the entire piece is fully recyclable. The raw materials are untreated allowing the surfaces to develop a patina over time that tells the story of the piece. Each piece is handmade in Stoke-on-Trent, UK.

The side tables come in two heights shown in the last image each listed separately and have recently been accompanied by a coffee table version. The design can be made to custom sizes on request. The tables will show some signs of patina and surface marks already, which are innate to the material. The top will continue to oxidise as the piece ages, the designers recommend wax coating the top after 3-6 months.

Archive for Space is Arabella Maza and Stephen Maginn. They work across architecture, interiors, industrial design, installation and set design. Arabella was educated at The Architectural Association and Stephen was educated at The University of Edinburgh and Edinburgh College of Art. The studio also leads a design unit at The University of Cardiff entitled Archiving Place. Archive for Space adopts a unique approach to each project, drawing and synthesising on an extensive archive of references and disciplines blending their research into a conscientious yet individual experience. They first met while working on a diverse range of projects at the late Sir Terence Conran’s architecture, interior design and product design studio, Conran and Partners.

Béton Brut

Béton Brut presents rare, design-led furniture from Europe and Japan. The collection, drawn from over a century of design, coheres around functional art & sculptural forms. Béton Brut comes from the concrete finish used in modernist architecture. It is rational yet organic, just like the collection.
