$7,550
Description

The Osvaldo Borsani for Tecno P40 Lounge Chair in black leatherette and chrome is an icon of Italian design from the 1950s. This edition has been manufactured during teh late 1960s.

Conceived as a multifunctional lounge system, the chair adapts effortlessly to multiple positions for sitting, reclining, and resting. Its innovative sliding backrest extends to form a supportive headrest, while the backrest itself tilts backward to create a relaxed rest position. The seating section extends forward to support the legs, complemented by a built-in footrest structure. Sculptural yet technical, the P40 combines comfort, movement, and timeless modern elegance for contemporary interiors and discerning collectors worldwide today and tomorrow alike. This second edition is executed with a height adjustable head rest.

Osvaldo Borsani was a pioneering Italian architect and designer whose work bridged rationalist architecture, industrial production, and experimental furniture. Born into a family of cabinetmakers, he developed an early sensitivity to craftsmanship while embracing modern technology and innovation. In 1953, he co-founded Tecno with his brother Fulgenzio, transforming the company into a leader of progressive design. Tecno became renowned for its research-driven approach, collaborating with architects and designers to create adaptable, functional systems for living and working. Borsani’s designs emphasized flexibility, ergonomics, and movement, anticipating changing lifestyles decades ahead. Under his creative direction, Tecno produced iconic pieces that balanced engineering precision with refined aesthetics. Together, Osvaldo Borsani and Tecno left a lasting legacy, shaping postwar Italian design and influencing contemporary furniture design worldwide through collaborations, exhibitions, and enduring products still admired for intelligence, clarity, and purpose today by museums, collectors, designers, and architects across generations internationally and academically celebrated globally.
