Designed in 1986, the Alibaba floor lamp is a quintessential example of Italian Post-Modernism. Created by the Milanese duo Raul Barbieri and Giorgio Marianelli for Tronconi, this piece combines industrial precision with the bold geometric language of the 1980s. Featuring a sleek metal column and a distinctive reflected-light diffuser, it provides powerful yet soft indirect illumination. A rare and collectible specimen of the historic "Milano" design scene.
Barbieri and Marianelli both worked under Ettore Sottsass at Olivetti; this "Alibaba" model is a prime example of the transition from Memphis-era playfulness to the "High-Tech" minimalism of the late 80s.
Halogen source (300W), equipped with original floor dimmer.
Good general working condition with the original dimmer functioning perfectly. The base shows some surface marks. Notably, the connector piece between the base and the column is experiencing paint loss, revealing the rusted metal underneath—a common aging point for this industrial finish that adds an authentic vintage character.
