Nieuwenborg & Wegman Delight Wall Lights, Ingo Maurer, Germany, 1980

$1,060
Description

A playful interpretation of the humble tea towel, the Delight wall sconces were created for lighting manufacturer Ingo Maurer by Dutch designers Martijn Wegman and Frans Van Nieuwenborg – who, after studying at Design Academy Eindhoven, developed an unorthodox approach to lighting design.

The draped sconces are crafted from heat-resistant fibreglass cloth, illuminated by a bulb underneath. Both have recently been rewired and PAT tested to UK standards. One of the sconces has a tear in its fabric.

Béton Brut presents rare, design-led furniture from Europe and Japan. The collection, drawn from over a century of design, coheres around functional art & sculptural forms. Béton Brut comes from the concrete finish used in modernist architecture. It is rational yet organic, just like the collection.
