Set of 6 Dining Chairs by Søren Nissen and Ebbe Gehl for Seltz, France 1980

$9,950
Description

This set of 6 dining chairs were designed by Søren Nissen and Ebbe Gehl in 1980 and produced in France. They are made of solid elm and beech wood. Each chair features a geometric detail in the backrest, composed of intersecting wooden elements arranged in a structured pattern. The frame includes straight lines and angles that form a visual composition with a repetitive structure. The chairs have a curved seat and a stable base, constructed with joined wooden components. The backrest and base are connected through a geometric frame, which also provides structural support. These chairs were developed during a time when Nissen and Gehl were producing furniture with clear construction methods and visible joinery. The chairs reflect their approach to woodworking and their use of solid materials in both functional and decorative components. The design allows for multiple chairs to be used together in a dining setting, maintaining visual consistency and alignment.

Another set of 4 chairs is available, possibly to combine creating a set of 10.

The set of chairs is showing similarities with the well known 'Model S45' chair by Pierre Chapo, also know as 'Chlacc' dining chair. Which were also manufactured by Seltz for Pierre Chapo Creations.

Søren Nissen and Ebbe Gehl are Danish furniture designers who began their collaboration in 1970. They established Nissen & Gehl MDD and worked with several Danish manufacturers. Their work is based on traditional woodworking techniques, with a focus on solid wood and functional design. They developed a range of products for both private and public use. Many of their pieces include visible joints and structural clarity. They became known for combining precise construction with consistent production methods. Their designs are part of the Danish modern movement and have been included in international design collections and long-term commercial use.
