Based in Melbourne, Lochlan’s practice explores the relationship between nature, preservation and contemporary materials. Each piece carefully incorporates real specimens within resin, allowing their delicate forms, textures and colours to be suspended and preserved in time. The interaction between light and resin is central to the work, revealing layers, shadows and intricate details within each piece. His works sit between natural history and contemporary sculpture, transforming fragile specimens into enduring objects. The name Rholtsu combines the names of Lochlan’s grandfathers, Harold and Thomas, reflecting the personal history and connections that underpin his practice.
