FLIGHT ARCHIVE

$9,900
Description
Resin, butterfly specimen, custom steel frame. Flight Archive is a sculptural study of movement, transformation and the fleeting beauty of the natural world. A collection of butterfly specimens is suspended within a hand-cast resin panel, housed in a custom-fabricated steel frame. The translucent resin allows light to pass through the specimens, revealing the delicate colour and intricate detail of each wing. As the light changes, layers and shadows emerge within the resin, creating a sense of movement and weightlessness. Handmade and individually composed, Flight Archive captures a fleeting moment of flight, preserved in material.

Lochlan Sutherland

Lochlan Sutherland (Rholtsu) is an Australian artist working with preserved natural specimens, resin and metal to create unique sculptural works. Based in Melbourne, Lochlan’s practice explores the relationship between nature, preservation and contemporary materials. Each piece carefully incorporates real specimens within resin, allowing their delicate forms, textures and colours to be suspended and preserved in time. The interaction between light and resin is central to the work, revealing layers, shadows and intricate details within each piece. His works sit between natural history and contemporary sculpture, transforming fragile specimens into enduring objects. The name Rholtsu combines the names of Lochlan’s grandfathers, Harold and Thomas, reflecting the personal history and connections that underpin his practice.
