Description
Resin, comet moth. This work presents a single moth suspended within a luminous yellow resin panel. The intense colour of the resin creates a warm, almost illuminated field around the delicate structure of the moth, highlighting its translucent wings, intricate markings and elongated form. As light passes through the resin, the specimen appears to shift between solid and transparent, while subtle bubbles and variations within the resin create layers of depth and movement. Designed as a sculptural object for the home, the piece can be placed on a coffee table, bookshelf or console, bringing an unexpected moment of colour and natural form into an interior.

Lochlan Sutherland

Lochlan Sutherland (Rholtsu) is an Australian artist working with preserved natural specimens, resin and metal to create unique sculptural works. Based in Melbourne, Lochlan’s practice explores the relationship between nature, preservation and contemporary materials. Each piece carefully incorporates real specimens within resin, allowing their delicate forms, textures and colours to be suspended and preserved in time. The interaction between light and resin is central to the work, revealing layers, shadows and intricate details within each piece. His works sit between natural history and contemporary sculpture, transforming fragile specimens into enduring objects. The name Rholtsu combines the names of Lochlan’s grandfathers, Harold and Thomas, reflecting the personal history and connections that underpin his practice.
