Large 10 Armed Round Chandelier with Glass Lens Diffusors by Oscar Torlasco, Italy 1970s
- Description
-
This Italian chandelier, designed by Oscar Torlasco and produced by Stilkronen in the 1970s, exemplifies the innovation in Italian lighting design of that era. The fixture is characterized by a radial arrangement of ten arms, each holding a lacquered aluminum housing within a chrome ring. Light is diffused through two glass lenses placed at both ends of each housing, creating a distinctive pattern of illumination on surrounding surfaces. This design effectively balances both function and form, offering a well-distributed light.
The use of chrome, lacquered aluminum, and glass reflects the material choices common in mid-century Italian lighting. The symmetrical arrangement of the arms, extending from a central chrome sphere, conveys a blend of modernist minimalism and decorative detail. The precision in construction and interaction of reflective surfaces align with the broader trends in Italian design of the period.
Oscar Torlasco (1934–2004) was a prominent figure in Italian lighting design, known for blending technical innovation with aesthetic elegance. His collaborations with leading manufacturers like Lumi and Stilkronen produced lighting fixtures that combined advanced optical solutions with refined design.
Torlasco's use of materials such as chrome, aluminum, and glass reflects his commitment to durability and craftsmanship. Many of his designs feature intricate lens systems to optimize light diffusion, a hallmark of his work. His contributions to Italian design continue to influence and are highly regarded in mid-century modern decor.
Condition: The chandelier is in good condition, with all shades and the ceiling plate showing slight discoloration which is in line with the age of the chandelier and gives a nice patina. All glasses of the chandelier are in good vintage condition as well, with only a few which miss small chips, which we photographed and shown in the listing.
We have consciously chosen to photograph all of our items in their current state to present the real original condition as completely as possible for transparency towards our clients.
In case you have any additional questions about the original condition, always feel free to reach out and ask us for additional images. We do also offer services such as restoration and re-upholstery in case this is wished for.
