This Italian desk from the 1940s is constructed from solid and veneered chestnut.
The desk features a ""grissinato"" carved border, a technique frequently associated with Italian craftsmanship of the mid-20th century. The carvings provide a structured, linear texture to the desk's frame, which is further defined by scalloped edges. The legs, positioned at an angle, are tapered and fluted, reinforcing the geometric emphasis seen in Italian modernist furniture. A horizontal stretcher connects the legs, incorporating additional scalloped detailing that aligns with the aesthetic coherence of the piece.
The top includes a green leatherette inlay with gold leaf detailing, covered by a glass sheet for protection. The use of chestnut wood suggests a preference for durable yet visually refined materials, commonly employed in Italian furniture of this period. The desk includes two storage drawers, positioned on one side, integrated seamlessly into the design. Condition: The desk received a gentle restoration, focussing on the finish and construction. The desks overal shows some small signs of and use which is in line with the age of the desk, being from 1940's. The glass plate and green leatherette coverage show some scratches which is visible on the images. The frame of the desk has received restoration and the drawers function very well. Minor stains visible, some veneer replaced on the bottom of the legs
