Designed by Augusto Romano during the 1940s, this lounge chair has a natural blonde European Walnut wood frame and is upholstered in 'Pugin Turquoise' fabric by Designers Guild. The chair has a low, comfortable seat and a solid wooden structure that gives it a strong presence. One of its most distinctive features is the thick, angled armrests that extend forward from the backrest, creating a bold, sculptural and functional detail. The legs are shaped with clear cuts and slightly angled, giving the chair a dynamic look. The top of the backrest features a gentle curve, softening the overall form and adding comfort. The seat and backrest are neatly fitted into the wooden frame, with no loose cushions, keeping the design clean and structured. The shape and build of the chair highlight the balance between comfort and construction, making it both a practical piece and a clear example of Romano’s design approach.
Augusto Romano was an Italian architect and designer active in the 1940s and 1950s. He studied architecture in Italy and brought a structural, rational approach to furniture design. His work for Cassina reflects a focus on clear forms and honest construction. Romano explored solid wood structures and modern proportions, often designing limited pieces for interiors. His designs are recognized for their architectural logic and precise detailing.
Condition: The Pugin Turquoise' fabric by Designers Guild shows some signs of wear and is fully in tact, reupholstered recently. The frame was restored with respect for it's age. Showing some subtle traces of wear. Images of the chair prior to restoration are available upon request. Complete refinishing of the frame with removal of the age related signs is possible although its current patina aligns with age of the chair.
We have consciously chosen to photograph all of our items in their current state to present the real original condition as completely as possible for transparency towards our clients.
In case you have any additional questions about the original condition, always feel free to reach out and ask us for additional images. We do also offer services such as restoration and re-upholstery in case this is wished for.
