This silhouette first appeared at Rick Owens’ MOOG FW05 show in two colorways, before being fully introduced in the FW06 collection as the brand’s first sneaker. Owens described his goal as “exoticizing” sports shoes, which he found too prosaic, creating a parody of major sneaker brands like Nike, Puma, and adidas. These were among the first sneakers sold at luxury prices, helping redefine luxury footwear.
The pair features a black premium leather base with ivory overlays. The Dunk was produced in a high cut, with an oversized tongue - and featured a Rick Owens graphic on the interior. Up the medial ankle is a chunky zip, and the soles are stapled at the rear - a signature of all his older sneaker models.
