At Salone del Mobile 2025, Nick Ross presented nine identical chairs, each crafted from a different species of wood, as part of Material Conversations with NM3. The installation highlighted his interest in exploring materiality through repetition, where subtle variations in grain, tone, and texture became the focus.
This series traces its origins to Ross’s earlier presentation at the Swedish Museum of History during Stockholm Design Week in September 2023, where the initial design was first unveiled. Drawing on references from Scandinavian Bronze Age boat construction, Viking jewellery, and ancient standing stones, Ross continues to strip design back to its fundamentals. “These objects are simple, showcasing my design philosophy in its purest form: material and volume in context.”
