Béton Brut

Nineteenth-Century Mahogany Wardrobe, Germany, 1820s

$4,670
Description

This classically inspired and elegantly proportioned wardrobe in mahogany and rosewood was crafted in Germany in the 1820. Its four hinged doors open upon several neatly designed compartmentalised spaces that now serve as shelves, having once contained drawers. The exterior façade is made up of four perfectly square panelled quadrants flanked by barley twist columns and set upon lion’s-paw feet. The pedimented section above has an inlay motif and three finials.

There is some evidence of former restoration work to the righthand door, and it bears some historic scratches, including wear to the internal fittings. The four internal drawers are no longer extant, but it retains its keys and has removable shelves. Further restoration could be available on request.
