Lothar Klute Forged Bronze & Cast Glass Coffee Table, Germany, 1980s
- Description
-
Born from the forge of German designer Lothar Klute (b. 1946), this oval coffee table offsets organic texture with Brutalist heft. The concave slab of cast iced glass rests on a band of forged iron, which meets four tapered legs at decorative iron belts. The metal’s irregular surface recalls the rhythm of whittled wood.
Klute initially trained as a blacksmith in rural Mailar before studying sculpture in Aachen. He produced several public sculptures for Berlin in the 1970s, and now works from a smithy and sculpture park, Galerie Klute in der Waldemai, on the site of an old slate mine near Schmallenberg.
The table is in excellent vintage condition, with some verdigris-like patina around the side rivets. No scratches to the glass.

Béton Brut
Béton Brut presents rare, design-led furniture from Europe and Japan. The collection, drawn from over a century of design, coheres around functional art & sculptural forms. Béton Brut comes from the concrete finish used in modernist architecture. It is rational yet organic, just like the collection.
