Gijs Bakker Paraplu Lamp Artimeta, Netherlands 1973
- Description
-
Designed by Gijs Bakker in 1973 and taking inspiration from the light defusing umbrellas used in photography studios. Bakker aimed to create a lamp with the function dispersing the light. The source of light is a simple lightbulb not masked by the shade and placed central to the lamp. The Paraplu lamp features in the Smithsonian and Cooper Hewitt collections.
The lamp is made from chrome-plated metal and silk (synthetic). There are signs of usage and age. Some fraying and light marking to the shade, some patina to metal and one of the metal arms slightly out of shape.

Béton Brut
Béton Brut presents rare, design-led furniture from Europe and Japan. The collection, drawn from over a century of design, coheres around functional art & sculptural forms. Béton Brut comes from the concrete finish used in modernist architecture. It is rational yet organic, just like the collection.
