Béton Brut

Campo & Graffi Prisco Coat Stand HOME, Italy, 1961

$2,180
Description

A dining table attributed to Claudio Salocchi (1934-2012). With its distinctive square metal supports, this generous table is effectively the prototype for a now much-mimicked design. The cream lacquer top has a slight chamfered edge, while each quadrilateral hovers just off the ground on hidden feet.

Salocchi studied architecture at the influential Milan Politecnico University before embarking on a design career that lasted some fifty years. He established a reputation for deep research into furniture layouts, yielding innovative compositions without compromise on function. His prescient Metrosistema design, a customisable system of multifunctional cabinets designed primarily for kitchens, was awarded the Compasso d’Oro in 1979.

In good vintage condition, with some light scratches to the lacquered surface.

Béton Brut

Béton Brut presents rare, design-led furniture from Europe and Japan. The collection, drawn from over a century of design, coheres around functional art & sculptural forms. Béton Brut comes from the concrete finish used in modernist architecture. It is rational yet organic, just like the collection.
