The Øresund Cabinet in teak and Oregon pine was designed by Børge Mogensen in the 1950s as part of the Øresund series produced by Karl Andersson & Söner. The cabinet is constructed using a combination of solid Oregon pine for the frame and teak veneer for the doors, resulting in a two-tone appearance. The lighter-colored pine forms the structure and legs of the cabinet, while the darker teak veneer is used for the sliding doors of both the upper and lower sections. The design reflects Mogensen’s focus on functionality, modularity, and the use of quality materials. This cabinet was manufactured in Sweden during the mid-20th century and was part of a larger range of storage furniture designed for domestic use. Marked with 'Svensk Fur' on the back of the cabinet. The components are not permanently joined, allowing for separate use.
The Interior of the cabinet can be placed in a variety of setups, allowing the owner to play around with the arrangement of the drawers.
Børge Mogensen was a Danish designer known for his functional, durable furniture rooted in the Danish modern tradition. Trained under Kaare Klint, he emphasized simplicity, craftsmanship, and everyday usability. He worked with natural materials and often designed modular, practical pieces for homes. As head of design at FDB Møbler and later in his own studio, he created furniture for manufacturers like Fredericia and Karl Andersson & Söner. Mogensen’s work remains influential and continues to be produced, reflecting his focus on form, function, and accessible design.
