This console in muted tones is by the late Dutch architect Jan de Jong (1917-2001). Originally built in the early 1960's as a prayer bench for a church in North Brabant, Netherlands, this rare piece bears the hallmarks of his early work. Student and close collaborator of Dom Hans van der Laan, a Benedictine monk and leading figure of the Bossche School, Jong was known for his great sense of proportion, austerity and balance.
