A true pioneer in the history of industrial design, the Model 4875 chair was the first in the world to be manufactured from a single injection-molded piece of polypropylene. Designed by Carlo Bartoli in 1974, this set of four chairs exemplifies the Space Age aesthetic with its soft, organic curves and structural ingenuity. Highly versatile and durable, they are iconic pieces of 20th-century Italian furniture that have earned a permanent place in the collections of the Centre Pompidou in Paris and the Kartell Museum in Milan.
Nominated for the Compasso d'Oro in 1979, the 4875 was a revolutionary project that utilized the newly discovered polypropylene to create a high-quality, affordable designer chair with removable legs for efficient storage.
The chairs are structurally sound and retain their original stability. However, the white plastic surfaces show significant signs of wear, including numerous marks and scratches consistent with extensive vintage use. These cosmetic imperfections reflect their authentic history as early examples of industrial plastic furniture.
