Afra & Tobia Scarpa Monk Chair Molteni, Italy 1974
- Description
-
Formidable husband and wife team Tobia and Afra Bianchin Scarpa created interiors and furniture that embraced the materials of each design and the interplay of technology and aesthetics. They met studying architecture at the University luav di Venezia, graduating in 1957.
The Monk chair is one of many distinctive and highly regarded designs from the pair. Its humble form is comprised of two key materials, solid walnut legs with a black leather seat and backrest. Refined, functional and comfortable.
While structurally sound, the leather shows heavy signs of age. There is surface wear and patina across the surfaces and edges.

Béton Brut
Béton Brut presents rare, design-led furniture from Europe and Japan. The collection, drawn from over a century of design, coheres around functional art & sculptural forms. Béton Brut comes from the concrete finish used in modernist architecture. It is rational yet organic, just like the collection.
