SL-1 Lamp

$1,350
Description

PLEASE NOTE: These lamp-bases are each handmade and the color/pattern of each lamp base varies greatly. Natural variations are a celebrated feature of this medium.

Scagliola was a prevalent plastering technique during the 1600’s and was often used to imitate marble and pietra dura. Today, Mike Serra is interested in using this technique as a more three dimensional and tactile medium rather than the flat panels seen in the past. Serra blends the plaster with rabbit skin glue, various stone particles and earth pigments to create a visually unpredictable sculpting medium that can also be carved like stone when dry.
