When a tree is wounded, it produces resin to seal and protect itself. I grew up in Pomerania, on the Baltic coast, where that resin is everywhere, from the pine forests to the amber found on the beaches after a storm. This stool is based on that relationship between tree and resin. The carved wooden legs hold the seat the way a tree holds its resin, while the resin seat sits on top and protects the wood. Its warm amber tone catches the Mediterranean light of Barcelona, bringing together the two places that shape my work.
