Milan, September 2025 – The collaboration between Gufram and The Andy Warhol Foundation for the Visual Arts continues with the launch of three new limited-edition versions of Andy’s Cactus®, now available in green, orange, and white. Following the debut of the first limited edition in blue, pink, and yellow in 2022, the collection grows with fresh interpretations that deepen the dialogue between radical design and pop art iconography.
Created in 1972 by Guido Drocco and Franco Mello, CACTUS® is far more than just a coat rack — it’s a domestic sculpture that reimagines a functional object as a timeless and irreverent design icon. By deliberately rejecting the bourgeois conventions of modern furniture, it replaces rationality with irony, and utility with concept.
The new limited edition of ANDY’S CACTUS®, featuring 99 pieces in each variant, renews the dialogue between Gufram’s provocative spirit and the irreverent aesthetic that has defined the object since its inception. This collaboration celebrates creative freedom, unconventional thinking, and the determination to challenge the conventions of traditional design. The three new colors—green, orange, and white—are more than just decorative variations; they serve as visual nods to the language of Warholian pop art, enhancing the expressive impact of ANDY’S CACTUS® and strengthening its iconic status.
Inspired by colors and aesthetics of Warhol’s last fright wig self-portrait silkscreen paintings in 1986, with ANDY’S GREEN CACTUS®, ANDY’S ORANGE CACTUS®, and ANDY’S WHITE CACTUS®, Gufram reasserts its position as an editor of visionary objects—where art, irony, and experimentation merge to create pieces that transcend time and trends, communicating a visual language that is perpetually relevant.
«Repeating something that worked is always intriguing—especially when the inspiration comes from Andy Warhol, the master of creative repetition. With these three new color variations of ANDY’S CACTUS®, we continue to explore the art of seriality, just as he did: the same subject, new colors, and each time a one-of-a-kind piece. It’s a paradox we love: repetition that gives rise to originality»–says Charley Vezza of Gufram.
«Warhol’s creative vision continues to resonate across culture, inspiring such bold collaborations that blur the boundaries between art, design, and everyday life. Proceeds from this project strengthen the Foundation’s philanthropic mission, supporting contemporary artists whose work challenges and expands our understanding of the world. We are thrilled to join forces again with Gufram, whose avant garde spirit mirrors Warhol’s own impactful approach to innovation and experimentation»– says Michael Dayton Hermann, Managing Director, Strategic Initiatives at The Andy Warhol Foundation for Visual Arts, Inc.
