Solid and self-assured, the ISU armchair by Japanese 20th-century designer Shigeru Uchida (1943-2016) is a masterpiece in industrial refinement. A major figure in post-war Japan, Uchida left a distinct mark on the world of contemporary design. Multiple works are held in permanent collections of the New York Metropolitan Museum of Art, the San Francisco Museum of Modern Art, the Montreal Museum of Decorative Arts and others.
The armchair, reissued by Pastoe in the Netherlands in 1995, has been recently upholstered in grey teddy mohair and stands on solid aluminium legs.

Béton Brut
Béton Brut presents rare, design-led furniture from Europe and Japan. The collection, drawn from over a century of design, coheres around functional art & sculptural forms. Béton Brut comes from the concrete finish used in modernist architecture. It is rational yet organic, just like the collection.
