Todoroki/NLP Inc., 2010 After leaving a career in international broadcasting for NHK, Yoshida moved to the United States in 1962 and began photographing in Harlem. Harlem Black Angels is a frank tribute to the Black people she knew, expressed through a little boy named Zulu. Her photographs depict ordinary people and children alongside figures including Malcolm X, Angela Y. Davis, Dizzy Gillespie, Roberta Flack, Ray Charles, Miles Davis, Ornette Coleman and John Coltrane.
