Session Press, 2022 (signed) Red Flower, The Women of Okinawa is the first United States monograph by Okinawan photographer Mao Ishikawa. It brings together 80 black-and-white photographs made from 1975 to 1977 in Koza and Kin, Okinawa, primarily from Ishikawa’s first book, Hot Days in Camp Hansen, alongside previously unpublished work from the same period. The photographs celebrate the lives of women Ishikawa met and befriended while working in military bars during a period of heightened social and political tension between the United States and Japan.
