B1 Singular Stool, 2024

$4,170
Description

Starting from a participatory language between manual versus industrial, B1 [singular bench] is an object of investigation that seeks to explore new possibilities for interpreting emerging design, with constructive affinities and materials associated with modernist architecture. B1 presents itself as an original piece aims to be: 1. evidence of the exquisite work of the master craftsman; 2. a partial and expedited result of industrial technologies; and 3. a translating link of the designer’s conception that integrates various fields of action into a single and considered geometric volume.

Based on architectural visual references and built heritage from the second half of the 20th century, combined with new contemporary interpretations of functionality and materfoam, fabric the B1 Stool emerges from sculptural volumes and structural elements (interior and exterior) that emphasize the harmonization of these concepts. The composition is based on the variety of materials applied in the three different moments of the object: structure [walnut natural veneer], seat [high-density foam, fabric], and covering [stainless steel sheet].

Thus, a geometric composition was designed with a strong horizontal presence, with a semi- recessed top, which contrasts with the verticality guaranteed by the aluminum veneered side structures. To this architectural language on a small scale, an empty space was articulated as an interpretation of an opening or fenestration, which rises from the “basement” and allows the entry and circulation of light through the piece.

Designed for interior spaces, invoking stability with a sense of scale and presence, the B1 Stool can be used domestically or commercially, with the quantity and composition adjusted accordingly, being able to function as a standard module in a rhythmic modern composition.

Throughout this project, several main production stages were established. The intended result, with all elements perfectly integrated (woods, metals, upholstery), was only possible through the total synchronization of all stakeholders, highlighting the relevance of direct and evolutionary contact between designer, craftsman, and industry.
