Highly distinctive, this set of solid oak dining chairs by Carlo Scarpa marry a modernist geometry with imaginative construction. The sheath-like high back is held by an ebonised crossbar, mirrored by another tubular element at the internal angle of the frame. In profile, this section reveals a rounded right angle with pleasing symmetry.
Carlo Scarpa (1906-1978) was an architect who mastered materials, detail, and light. His poetic constructions, largely clustered around Venice, are distinct in their execution of detail and narrative allusion. He produced a limited body of furniture designs after meeting Dino Gavina in the 1960s, but is most famous for the Castelvecchio Museum in Verona, the Olivetti showroom in Venice and the Brion Tomb in San Vito d’Altivole.
In great vintage condition with minimal scratches.

Béton Brut
Béton Brut presents rare, design-led furniture from Europe and Japan. The collection, drawn from over a century of design, coheres around functional art & sculptural forms. Béton Brut comes from the concrete finish used in modernist architecture. It is rational yet organic, just like the collection.
