Product Details

Massimo and Lella Vignelli for Poltronova, 'Saratoga' three-seat sofa, polyester lacquer and black leather, Italy, 1964.

This three-seat sofa named 'Saratoga' is designed by Italian designer couple Lella & Massimo Vignelli. The Vignelli's were known for their clear designs, this piece is therefore also completely free from decorative details. All attention goes to the essential form and material in this design by Vignelli. The “Saratoga” is one of the first examples of modular and modern living in twentieth century. In their own words: “We have designed this sofa because we really needed a sofa. And the sofa we wanted was one with an architectural character rather that a soft, smooth object. A sofa that could be set out in the middle of the room. We didn’t want it to be pushed up against the walls; we wanted it to move around as needed.”

The leather on this piece shows signs of age and use, overall still in good condition. Please note that the item is in good, used condition. The Lacquer is also in great condition, with a few small cracks barely visible on the back and arms.
