Emma cc Cook
Emma cc Cook is a contemporary artist and designer living and working in Los Angeles. She is best known for her old-world craft traditions, such as heirloom hardwood design, and her unconventional oil paintings of agricultural America. In Cook's work, we find ourselves in a realm where artistry meets allegory, unveiling a haunting narrative of the rural landscape’s struggle against industrialization. Through her paintings, Cook weaves worlds that reflect a comingling of stark exteriority and domestic interiority, ultimately blurring the line between past and present. Cook's work is characterized by an interplay of utilitarian middle-American craft techniques and a contemporary critique of agriculture and industry. Cook has exhibited in numerous national and international exhibitions including; Acre Eaters, Anonymous Gallery, New York, New York (2024); Manners, Hayseed, 12.26, Texas (2024); Dibbler stick with James Castle, Adams & Ollman, Portland, Oregon (2023); Pilgrim, Public Gallery, London, England (2022); Peeping Tom, Et Al, Mission, San Francisco, California (2022); Milkman Pigeon, Half Gallery, New York, New York (2021). Recent group exhibitions include Stress tested (co-curated by the artist), Public Gallery, London, UK (2021); and Resting Point of Accommodation, Almine Rech, Brussels, Belgium (2021).
