Lily Clark is a Los Angeles-based artist whose practice explores the movement of water across natural and engineered systems. Working across stone, ceramic, metal, and resin, Clark considers water her primary medium—capturing its vortical, pulsating, and curvilinear motion through close observation and iterative experimentation. A fourth-generation Angeleno, Clark draws inspiration from California’s landscapes, where monumental geology intersects with human interventions in water flow. From the towering Sierra Nevada to the LA Aqueduct, her work reflects a deep engagement with the state’s hydrological infrastructure and the ways in which water is shaped, redirected, and controlled. Since earning her BFA from the Maryland Institute College of Art, Clark has developed a sculptural practice that began with ceramic water features and expanded into large-scale works in stone. She has completed international residencies, including Shiro Oni in Japan (2022), where she first worked with stone alongside local stonemasons, and Tinos Island, Greece (2023), where she created a permanent marble installation within the Ag. Eleftheriou quarry. Clark’s work has been presented in solo and two-person exhibitions, including Confluence at Neutra VDL Studio (2024) and Noon to Midnight: Field Recordings at Walt Disney Concert Hall (2024), as well as Pipes Canyon at High Desert Test Sites (2023). She has participated in group exhibitions such as Objects for a Heavenly Cave at Marta (2024) and is currently working on a number of public and private commissions. Recognized for her contributions to contemporary sculpture, she was named a rising star for 2024 by Wallpaper and has been included in its USA 300 list for two consecutive years.
