Big Foot Table

$4,900
Description

Paul T. Frankl's1886–1958) designed the Bigfoot coffee table for the Johnson Furniture Company of Michigan in the late 1940s. The low, cloud-shaped table was launched as a "cocktail table," a modern interpretation of the classic coffee table.

The table's biomorphic shape is said to be inspired by Alvar Aalto, Kaare Klint and other Scandinavian designers, but Frankl added his own ideas, such as a cork top and outward-facing legs. The design gave the table stability and broke with conventional geometry. The Bigfoot coffee table is one of Frankl's most famous works, a mid-century modernist icon. The new production is based on the original design and authorized by Paul T. Frankl's heirs.
