Large-scale wall relief by American ceramicist Clyde Burt, created in Melrose, Ohio in 1965. The architectural composition is assembled from individually formed and glazed stoneware elements set within a reclaimed wood framework. This work, along with others from the series, has been interpreted as Burt’s depiction of Chicago apartment dwellers.
Signed and dated on the reverse “Clyde Burt, Melrose, Ohio, 1965,” with an additional incised signature to the upper left reading “C Burt.”
Overall good vintage condition with an exceptionally rich, time-worn surface. Wear includes scattered abrasions, finish loss, minor chips, dust, and areas of paint transfer or residue to the wooden elements, all consistent with age and the artist’s use of reclaimed materials.
