Serena Armchair

$5,455
Description

The concept of the “hidden subject” in the Portuguese language conveys the idea of something unspoken yet present and influential in communication. How many subjects can remain hidden within a single work?

The Serena armchair aims to provoke this reflection by inverting the traditional roles of a chair’s structure and upholstery. The seat and backrest vanish through the transparency of glass, concealing this first subject, which typically plays the leading role in armchairs, and inviting the viewer to look more deeply at the structure supporting the entire piece. Once this new protagonist is discovered, we observe that the structure is entirely handcrafted, revealing the true hidden subject of the work—the human element.

As a result, we encounter an armchair where all its elements can be seen from every possible angle simultaneously. It is an armchair stripped of false pretensions or oversimplifications, allowing itself to be fully visible, hiding no detail. The only trace we observe of its ensemble is, ultimately, the interplay of light and shadow that spreads through the space, contributing to the work as a whole.
